Visitation Cancelled at Lopez State Jail Due to Illness

Due to a confirmed illness at Lopez State Jail in Edinburg, Texas, all offenders assigned to Z-4 and Z-3 housing areas, are temporarily restricted from receiving visitors on August 26, 2017 and August 27,2017.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justices has confirmed that at least 10 inmates have tested positive for mumps.  Those inmates who have been confirmed with the disease have been placed in isolation cells.  Two housing units within the jail are under medical restrictions due to potential exposure to the disease.

It is unclear how the outbreak started.

Visitors are encouraged to contact the Lopez State Jail at (956)316-3810 prior to traveling to ensure offender's visitation eligibility.
