Happy Memorial Day..For Some
We at TexasParoleNow.com wish everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day but want to remind everyone not to forget about those inside. While we celebrate with cookouts, swimming, and family fun the guys and girls inside the wire are hunkering down preparing for an awful summer (to follow an awful Winter and an awful Spring).
By now the temperatures in the TDCJ units, particularly the ones like Gurney and Holiday, are well over a hundred during the day making the metal bunks too hot to touch during the daylight hours. The prison system's answer? Bring around a water cooler with some ice (not much) and let the prisoners have a cup of ice water during the day. Not all day, just one time and just one cup.
The prisoners will be out working in the fields before daylight because if you work them past about 11:00 they start getting heat stroke so they are brought back to the unit, locked back into the sweat boxes the system calls "pods" where they sweat and wait until the next day to do it all over again.
The good news, as we pointed out last week, is that the chances for parole have increased dramatically. What this means is that everybody needs to do their parole packet!
People ask us "When is the time to start preparing a Texas parole packet?" Most of you know that a parole packet or a parole presentation package is a collection of documents and pictures sent to the Texas parole board to help them get to know the potential parolee a little better. This is particularly important in Texas since there is not an interview nor does the offender ever meet with an actual member of the parole board who will be voting.
Our answer as to when to start is always the same.
There are many reasons for this, but the main thing to remember is it is better to have the information and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Many times it takes much longer to get the information together than you would think and people are forced to submit packets without all of the materials. When you are trying for parole in Texas you need every bit of help you can get.
We discuss the various parts of the packet in our eBook, How to Prepare a Texas Parole Presentation Package, available as a download which can then be used to prepare the packet or as a download and printed copy. As a bookstore, we can mail the printed copy to a prisoner at his unit or directly to you. By all means, if you can afford a parole attorney, hire one, but if you can't, our low priced eBook will help you to do the best job possible.
The Effect of Concurrent and Consecutive Sentences on Texas Paroles
When Texas judges impose multiple sentences after conviction for multiple crimes they often have a choice on whether the sentences all run at the same time, known as concurrent, or whether the sentences are to run one after another, known as consecutive or stacked. How the judge orders the sentences to be served as well as which sentence is imposed first can make a dramatic difference in how long a prisoner has to wait to be eligible for parole.
