Most of you have heard of the recent shooting of the Kaufman County DA here in Texas and the shooting of the Colorado Prison Chief, likely by the same person. That person, Evan Ebel, was on parole when these murders were committed.

Since this is a year that the Legislature is meeting in Austin you may see them increase the budget of the prison system and make it more difficult for prisoners to be paroled.

That is a great reason for submitting parole packets early and doing them well, particularly if you can't afford the fees of a Texas parole lawyer.

You can expect the system to start tightening back up later this year so if your loved one is up for parole it is important that they give it their best effort this time rather than waiting until the next time they are up for consideration. Right now the criteria are the best hey have been in years and parole rates are high but that could easily change.
